Welcome to Nethergate, for the best of traditional real ales.

Who are we?  Nethergate has brewed traditional ales in the Stour Valley since 1986, firstly in the small town of Clare, in Suffolk,  and then in 2005, moving to a larger brewery on the south bank of the river Stour, a mile or two down river at Pentlow.
From the very start our beers have been recognised by their excellence, winning many awards, both regionally and nationally. A recent major award was at the Chicago International Beer Festival where we were awarded the prestigious Platinum Medal for Nethergate Old Growler, the top award. Nethergate wins Gold and Bronze at the 2007 Great British Beer Festival!
Held at London's Earls Court in August, this is Great Britain's premier beer festival. All 5000 beers brewed in the U.K. are eligible for awards, six being selected for gold medals, with supporting silver and bronze medals. Nethergate achieved a Gold Medal for Umbel Magna, in the Speciality Beers category, and a Bronze Medal with Suffolk County in the Best Bitter category.

Nethergate's success has been based upon the consistent quality of its beers, and the number of interesting and different beers that have been offered to discerning beer-drinkers over the years.
Today we brew ten permanent beers throughout the year, these being supplemented by seasonal and special beers, which are always welcomed by our many customers up and down the country.
Also available for 2008 are a range of
bottle-conditioned beers. Click here for details.

What beers do we brew?  Some names are well known, such as Old Growler, Suffolk County, Augustinian, Umble and the ubiquitous IPA, our most popular beer. Each has special characteristics, and these of course are supplemented by our special beers. A list of our ten permanent beers, with a description of each, can be viewed by clicking here.
A selection of the
pub clips used on some of our seasonal beers can be viewed by clicking here.

Where can I find Nethergate Beers?   There are a number of pubs that offer Nethergate real ales much or all of the time, and a list of these can be found by clicking here. We are  also often found as a "guest beer" in pubs that offer real ales.
It is also possible to buy our beer in bottles, these being sold by supermarkets, restaurants and hotels, or direct from us, (see immediately below). We also sell our beer in carry-home polypins and demi-pins.

Can I buy Nethergate beers direct from the brewery?  Yes you can, in polypins, which contain 36 pints, or demipins, which hold 18 pints, or in trays of a dozen 500cl bottles. Polypins and demipins are basically  boxes with a collapsible inner membrane which allows beer to be drawn off as required without letting in air, much in the same way as a wine-box works. If you would like to buy beer from us, (or wine), please click here to access our retail website, www.partybeers.com. Beer can be sent by courier, or collected from the brewery by prior arrangement. We also offer a wide range of interesting and modestly priced wines.

How we brew our Beer   Click here for an illustrated summary of the brewing process, as practised by Nethergate. Most traditional breweries would brew in the same way as us.
